Sounz Forza

"The workshop was a fantastic experience. It was simply one of the funnest and enjoyable courses I've ever been on. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking at the performance side of music." (T. Sherson, bassist)

"Such a privilege to hang out and share music with such awesome musicians. Very memorable; would do it again tomorrow!" (F. McMartin, singer-songwriter)

Sounz Forza Workshops, located in the beautiful lakeside town of Wanaka, Central Otago, is an initiative kickstarted in 2010 to address the need for contemporary courses for musicians of all ages and genres.

Lake Wanaka SouNZ Incorporated (LWSI), which has been running the successful Rippon Festivals since last millenium, offers a variety of music workshops featuring top Kiwi musicians and icons within the industry as guest tutors at most workshops. Members from such bands as Shapeshifter, Trinity Roots, The Blacks Seeds and The Mint Chicks share their national and overseas experience with students keen to take their music career to the next level.

LWSI also hosts the YAMI Sounz Summit during NZ Music Month (May), which sees 150 students, tutors and volunteers take part in a truly unique musical weekend. Participants get the opportunity to network, collaborate, and learn new skills to assist in a fulfilling career in the music industry. Past tutors include Julia Deans, Warren Maxwell, Anika Moa, Dave Dobbyn, Ladi6, Jon Toogood, Barnaby Weir, Sam Flynn Scott and more. YAMI has now become a regular fixture on the musical calendar.

Whether you are looking to upskill in the area of performance, management, or sound production, each workshop promises to be fun as well as educational. Workshop numbers are kept deliberately small to ensure maximum benefit to each attendee.

Sounz Forza Workshops (Forza, meaning ‘strength’) are specifically designed to cater for people who wish to have music as the main force within their career. The minimum age for most workshops is 16 years, and there are also special workshops aimed solely at younger students.

Each workshop is partially subsidised by Lake Wanaka SouNZ and community funding. The workshops are for musicians, composers, and for people who wish to work within the industry.

Upcoming Workshops
