About

"The concept of Sounz Forza grew from an evident need for fun, relevant, contemporary music tuition from the people who know the industry through and through"

Workshop Manager

Lake Wanaka SouNZ Incorporated was set up in 1997 to provide New Zealanders with access to quality NZ music, and now quality musical training for committed individuals. Since 2000, over $90000 has been donated by the non-profit society to assist in the areas of education, youth, and the environment.

What

Tailored to meet the requirements of the participants, the workshops can cover any aspect from electronica to songwriting to gig funding. Most feature top musicians from around the nation, who come to Wanaka to share their knowledge with workshop participants. The Workshop costs cover tuition, certificates, equipment hire, refreshments and venue hire.

Where

Only 2km from Wanaka centre, the workshops take place in a private, sheltered venue nestled among a grove of walnut trees. All equipment (with the exception of personal instruments) is provided on site.

Who

The workshops are open to anyone who believes that music is an undeniable force within their lives, and they wish to know more, and meet like-minded people. Our guest tutors are talented professionals who have a proven career within the music industry. Past tutors include members of Shapeshifter, The Mint Chicks, Trinity Roots and Anna Coddington.

When

Most workshops take place over long weekends, however times and dates are flexible in some cases. Some workshops require night time availability. The date for each worskhop is announced on this website at least six weeks prior.

Why

With an undeniable absence of contemporary music workshops of this nature in the South Island, and an abundance of talented musicians with an interest in passing on their experience, the timing couldn’t be better. In the words of Age Pryor, "This is just what our music scene needs..."

How

Lake Wanaka SouNZ Incorporated is recognised as a charitable entity through The Charities Commission and strives to provide New Zealanders with access to quality music, and now quality musical training for committed individuals. Each workshop is partially funded through LWSI and community donations. One scholarship per annum is available in each workshop type.
